MARINE RESCUE
Welcome Aboard!
The marine unit is a specialty team focused on marine rescue and water based support of fire incidents at the shoreline. This unit requires passing multiple skills tests and hands on expertise for each position in the team. All team members are be expected to assume any position at any time, so the training is geared towards all members achieving coxswain status.
There is a lot to learn if you are new to the boating world. Knowing how to handle a power or sail boat and having on the water experience is a plus.
The unit has two vessels. The main boat is a twin diesel powered 35 foot catamaran, designated as Marine 3 and located at Langley Marina.
The second boat is a 16 foot rubber inflatable vessel (RIB) designated as Marine 31 and located at station 36. It is towed to various launches by Rescue 31.
Joining the team requires approval from the operations chief after a written request from your station officer. After approval, the next two mandatory requirements must be met. First is taking and passing the Washington State Boaters online course. The second requirement is to pass a swim test.
After these requirements are met you will be issued additional marine team equipment, and can start your training.
